DESCRIPTION

Setting

SE corner of Leigh Avenue and John Street in one of Witherspoon-Jackson's main commercial areas. Corner buildings sits on wide concrete apron facing north onto Leigh Avenue. Building is noncontributing due to major alterations of fenestration and on both floors.

Description

Two story mixed use flat roofed rectangular building with long axis facing north on Leigh Avenue. Key element is the Italianate trim above first floor similar to that at 50 Leigh across street. Second floor is stucco with thick molded cornice. Building holding multiple shops/restaurants opening onto Leigh, with apartments above.

Former grocery store. Building constructed first along Leigh Avenue between 1918 (when there was no building there according to maps) and 1930 when it appears on the Franklin Survey Co. Map.
