DESCRIPTION

Setting

First south side residential property east of the intersection of Leigh Avenue and John Street. The lot slopes slightly down to the west and up to the south. A driveway to a large rear parking area is on the west side.

Description

Two story raised foundation two bay stuccoed residence similar to 24 Leigh Avenue. The street facing gabled roof has a steep 12/12 slope and boxed in returns for the overhanging raking cornices. The eaves have also been boxed. The is a single two over two wood window above the typical one over one replacement units on the first and second floors. The widely spaced second floor units align with a window and door on the first leaving room for another central window at that level. The full width shed roof porch has solid knee walls with 4x4 wood columns including pairs at the top of the concrete entrance stair.

The east elevation has two windows over a window and side door to the front, while the west elevation has two second floor windows over one towards the rear. There is a one bay, full width hip roof extension in the rear with four windows on the south (rear) facade. There is a single chimney centered on the east facade inboard of the exterior wall.

The house was constructed c. 1905. It appears on the Sanborn Atlas of 1906, very soon after Leigh Avenue was laid out.
