DESCRIPTION

Setting

The property is located on the northeast corner of Birch Avenue and Race Street. Birch Avenue is a residential street with a tree-lined sidewalk on each side; Race has neither trees nor sidewalks. The property has a small front lawn off each road. A curb cut off Race provides off-street parking, and the house also has access to a paved drive along its east boundary that is shared with 147 Birch Avenue.

Description

The house on the property is a vernacular mid-20th century building consisting of a 2-story section near the intersection and a 1-story rear section. The two sections have gabled roofs with the ridge parallel to Race Street. The roof of the two sections is clad with asphalt shingles and features vinyl-clad eaves. A small brick chimney is located on the west slope of the roof of the 2-story section. The frame walls are clad with aluminum siding. Windows are all mid-to-late 20th century units, many of which are paired and/or feature inoperable shutters. The main entrance is located on the west side of the 2-story section and opens onto a porch with a shed roof. Other exterior doors are located on the east side of the 2- story section, accessing the shared property drive, and off the north end of the 1-story section. The house has a concrete foundation with horizontal basement windows.
